These beautiful, handmade short dinner candles are made from 100% locally sourced bees wax with a cotton wick in the sunny Hawkes Bay by craftsman at the Hohepa Candles Workshop. This is one of several work centres at Hohepa where adults with disabilities learn and master hand-crafts. Hohepa’s mission is to bring a bright light into everybodys life: the candle makers and those lighting them up.
Candle-making is an ancient craft which connects a sense of aesthetics and beauty with a highly developed set of skills which suits the workers well mostly adults with an intellectual disability. An environment of warmth and colour coupled with a measured working pace which engages and supports people in their physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.

Hohepa is an incredible community based up in the Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. Based on the Walldorf approach, the community helps each individual find their potential. Living and working as a communiy with learning done via mulitiple workshops and vociational training opportunities, people with a disability will grow to experience satisfying lives with as much independence as possible. Curative education, social therapy, a rich cultural life and biodynamic land-use combine to make Hohepa unique in the way it encourages the development of body, soul and spirit for all.This is one of several work centres at Hohepa where adults with disabilities learn and master hand-crafts.
